Fuerteventura - Canary Islands - My Favourite Places

Fuerteventura - My Favourite Island.....so far

In June of 2019, I seen the opportunity for cheap flights and accommodation in the beautiful island that is Fuerteventura. Fuerteventura is a Spanish island located just 100km from the coast of Africa, making it the closest Canary Island to the African Coast. A visit to Fuerteventura will guarantee beautiful weather of high temperatures as well as an abundance of activities to do.  During our visit in June - temperatures did not go below 22°C, this was welcomed as it makes a change from the gloom that Ireland has provided us with recently.

In an island like Fuerteventura, there is a heavy tourist population, this is due to the all year round beautiful weather that holidays makers seek when picking a location. Due to the high amount of tourists - the island is not short on activities. Going for a simple walk can have you occupied for hours, gazing at the sunset by the coast can make time go by like never before. The image above shows a neighbouring local town which sits on a hill - the walk from the peak to the coast is breath-taking.

Beaches
Most tourists come to places like Fuerteventura for their abundance of Beaches. The beaches at Fuerteventura are very well maintained. The beaches are free to access but if you require a bed , fees may vary from £9 - £15. Most beaches are accompanied with a walkway for people to walk and enjoy the sun. As well as this - ice cream parlours and small shops are scattered along the beach for tourists. The beaches are located directly beside the Town of Fuerteventura making them easy to access. The beaches are endless in Fuerteventura and go on for miles, with lovely soft flat sand - the beaches of Fuerteventura are a must see for any tourist visiting.

Food and Drink
During my stay, I was on holidays - so i decided that i would make the most of this opportunity to eat and drink at my own leisure. We visited an array of restaurants and bars - some more touristy than others. Saying that, the food that was served was always of a high calibre but food always tastes better when the sun is beaming down.

Whilst walking along the beach promenade, there is food for any craving - Pizza, Pasta Steakhouses etc. Words cannot do some of the dishes justice, so thankfully i have photos. Bars stay open quite late in Fuerteventura serving beer, cocktails and anything else you would expect.

Weather and General vibe
Since Fuerteventura is a tourist location primarily, the vibe that is portrayed is good vibes. Whether this is during visiting the market on a Thursday or enquiring about activities - the locals all seem to be very pleasant and always happy to make conversation in order to offer help. The initial main attraction for myself when going to Fuerteventura was the weather. After suffering a rainy summer in 2018, i thought i would have to go somewhere with guaranteed sunshine and i was not disappointed. Weather in June for Fuerteventura reaches highs of 26 degrees and lows of 15 degrees, this makes a change from the usual rainy summers we've all became custom to in Ireland.
